FAQs

What is the Creative Recovery Club (CRC)?

The Creative Recovery Club is a community and resource hub for artist-mothers and caregivers navigating the balance between creativity, parenthood, and personal transformation. We offer workshops, courses, and collective spaces that center global majority women and underrepresented voices in the arts.

Who is the Creative Recovery Club for?

CRC is designed for mothers, caregivers, and artists who want to reconnect with their creativity while finding solidarity with others who share similar challenges. Whether you’re a singer, writer, visual artist, or multidisciplinary creative, you’ll find space here to rest, rebuild, and create.

Why focus on mothers and caregivers?

Motherhood and caregiving often make artists invisible within traditional creative industries. CRC is about reclaiming visibility and voice. We believe that artist-mothers deserve sustainable pathways to create, share, and thrive without having to choose between family and art.

What kind of support does CRC provide?

We offer a mix of online and in-person support, including:

  • Voice notes, live workshops, and courses

  • Community meetups and group chats

  • Shared resources for creative sustainability

  • A newsletter with prompts, insights, and opportunities

How can I join the Creative Recovery Club?

You can join by subscribing to our newsletter, following along on Instagram, or participating in one of our workshops or courses. We’re building this as a collective—your voice and presence shape what CRC becomes.

Do I need to be a professional artist to join?

Not at all. CRC welcomes anyone who identifies as creative—whether you’re just starting out, returning after a break, or working professionally. What matters is your desire to nurture your creative practice in community.

How is CRC different from other creative communities?

Our focus is on creative recovery and sustainability for mothers and caregivers. We center lived experience, healing through voice and art, and building networks of solidarity that challenge the pressures of productivity culture. This isn’t about hustle—it’s about restoration, connection, and growth.

What does “creative recovery” mean?

Creative recovery is the process of reclaiming your creative identity after times of loss, transition, or silence. For many mothers and caregivers, this means rediscovering the parts of yourself that felt invisible or left behind, and finding new ways to create that align with your current life.

Can I share my story with CRC?

Yes! We encourage members to share voice notes, reflections, or creative fragments. With your permission, we may share these contributions on our platforms to inspire and support others in the community.

How can I support the Creative Recovery Club?

You can support CRC by joining our newsletter, attending events, sharing our work, or contributing your own story. If you’d like to collaborate or partner, get in touch—we love building with like-minded creatives and organizations.

Who started the Creative Recovery Club?

The Creative Recovery Club was founded by Angelica Allen, an experimental pop musician, sound artist, and mother who creates under the name My Midnight Heart. Her work explores matrescence, diasporic identity, and the transformative power of voice. CRC grew out of her own search for solidarity with other artist-mothers, and a vision to build a collective space where creativity, caregiving, and recovery are not in conflict but in conversation.
